Face-off and game on.

Balik Pulau is officially a battlefield and what better way to start the league with the only remaining survivors from last year Div II facing-off against each other. Adding more drama to the play, FireBRANDS found themselves down with only 4 players within merely 2 seconds when Vincent Lim was sent off for incorrect equipment, the price you'd have to pay for wearing non-uniform shorts.

Frontliners being the underdog seemed to lack interest in attacking as they were content in parking their number in front of goal, shutting down the spaces, but still it was FireBRANDS who drew first blood within minutes returning to full strength. One might have thought FireBRANDS, with 3 state players would go on a scoring spree but instead there was little breakthrough. Even when there was, the goalie was up for it. FireBRANDS can only curse their bad luck or bad finishing, take a pick.

300 appeared weary after the restart and was quick to pay for their lapse of concentration as James Tan doubled his goal tally and FireBRANDS' lead. Within minutes, it was 3-0 as new recruit Sherwynd strikes in the third. 300 was quickly sinking without a trace. Or not? The kids seemed to come out to attack more than the first although they seemed tired, even after conceding 2 goals. They might not be as potent as their opponents but they certainly made them sweat.

Eventually, they fell and ended the match with a 4-0 loss, Gary Lee, the captain opening his account in the dying minutes.

MoMs:

Frontliners 300:

Conceding 4 against the title contenders. An achievement no matter how you look at it. Call it FireBRANDS bad luck, but Omprakash, the goalie, definitely played a major part by stopping the other 24 SoTs. Decent mobility and reflexes and just his second tourney after last December's SukPen, his goalie career seems promising. Just remember not to swing to hard backwards while throwing out, it's an Own Goal!

FireBRANDS:

James Tan. FireBRANDS' number one attack force for the match with 2 goals. FireBRANDS' #11 caused 300 all sorts of problems, outrunning and outmuscling them. Well maybe failed to outwit the goalie who saved a few, but nevertheless, it was an energetic display that yielded 2 goals and a win. Sufficient.

Borak says:

Being the fitter and better team, it was a one-sided affair(as expected) for FireBRANDS as they dominated the majority of the possession, winning almost if not all the 50-50 challenges. It was a rather comfortable match for FireBRANDS as the goalie was almost shot-free while numerous opportunities were created at the other end, especially from the trio, Gary, James & Daniel but they failed to bury it at more than one occasion. It was a warm up for the big boys but if they are to win the division convincingly, it would be a fool’s thought to be too relaxed now considering their poor finishing and lapse of concentration in defense.

300 on the other hand, came in to the game lacking interest in offense. They literally camped in front of their goal, closing down the shooting zone as much as they could . Their discipline and determined approach kept FireBRANDS at bay, forcing most of their shots to be taken far wide, giving away only one goal before the half. 300 did try to be a little adventurous after the restart, with Tristan as their main spearhead. The boy drifted past defenders much taller than him with some neat skills but failed to capitalize on those chances. Looking forward to the see the boy in action in coming matches.

I Think it was Samuel Tan who scored. Sherwynd's goal was disallowed for high sticking so to speak lolz
